Pharaoh's Hard Heart

I had two highlights while studying Exodus. The first was learning that the plagues God sent upon Egypt were not random plagues, but they actually confronted the Egyptian god's. God was proving that He's more powerful than all the god's of Egypt.

The second was about Pharaoh's Hard Heart. Picture a clay brick and brick of butter on a flat surface. The effects of the sun on the two bricks produce different results. It's both a softening force and a hardening force. The result is based on what they're made of as clay responds differently than butter. The sun is how we think about God and the confronting presence of God is likened to an oven. God confronts Pharaoh and his heart is hardened. The fact that his heart was hardened tells us that it was already hard(like the clay brick). God's a gentleman and He was knocking at Pharaoh's heart's door. We have to ask Him in. God wants hearts to respond to Him the the brick of butter (Moses's heart).
