The Excitement of Measuring!
We've been using rulers to measure different things in class. We're also studying insects and last week they had to find other things that were as long as a praying mantis, stick insect, and goliath beetle. So they went around measuring shoe lengths, license plates, door handles, people's ears and heads! They LOVED the assignment. This time I brought my camera to class and caught a few pictures of them measuring their desk, pencil, scissors and chairs with tape measures.
This guy was pretty impressed at how tall his friend is!

Everyone is pretty excited to see how tall he is!

Working together!

Who knew measuring a chair could be so much fun?!!!!!

My camera had a hard time keeping up with all their movements, but you can see the excitement on her face!

Friends and Fun!
We've been practicing for this function for about a month now! My kids (Grade One) sang Down by the Bay and Mary Had a Little Lamb for their parents! There are 180 kids that go to our school so there were at least 300 parents under the tent today!

My girlfriend's class was acting out The Boy Who Cried Wolf, so they got facial hair for the part! :)

Nothing like teaching and living with a good friend!

.....Don't Forget Australia!
We've been learning about Continents and learned a song that says "don't forget Australia".

A lady who is a BIG Shining Light advocate has come to visit us from Australia. So she came to class and told us about all the animals that live in Australia. She told us that in Australia they greet each other by saying "Good-day mate"! The kids imitated her and got the accent right! Then she pulled out the Vegemite and let us try some on a cracker!

Some kids really liked it, and others didn't. One kid said it tasted like fire and was spicey!

Under the Northern Skies
Living life with a beautiful view! When the clouds clear, this view is spectacular from our school!
So full of energy! Sometimes the boys just drive me nuts, but then I take a step back and look at them smile and laugh. They LOVE to take tests..... any test will do! I'm so glad they love to learn!

Flooding
In an area a few hours North of us the river flooded and fill these shops with river rock.
The river deposited rocks in trees.
This used to be a field, but is now covered with river rock. Villages may have to completely relocate because all their crops are covered in river rock.
Last week we were able to deliver 50 food packages in a few villages.

Smoked Salmon!!
Thank you Dave for your wonderful gift of smoked salmon!!! I ate the first tin last year and saved this tin for a special event. My friend Robin spent 8 months here in 2008 & 2009, but now she's back for a visit for a few weeks. If anyone here(in Asia) would appreciate a smoked salmon lunch, it would be her. She's from Ucluelet and has worked with a charter fishing company for several summers! We're so blessed. Thanks a bunch!

Dressing Up!!
Finally eating from my garden!!
Green beans at a few weeks.

Green beans gone wild...really wild, they won't stop producing runners! They're climbing up the apple tree now! :)

Beans and lettuce have been doing great in my garden. The carrots aren't very tastey though. Oh well. Cucumbers are trying to grow, but they haven't done well with all the rain. Bugs have camped out under the leaves and in the baby cuc's.

Summer Fun
The last day of school was full of awards and water! Kids from each grade received awards for perfect attendance, Most Improved Student, and for being a Star Child.
After the awards, we played with water balloons, slide down a slip and slide and ate watermelon! What a day!
Teacher went out for lunch after parent teacher meetings! What a wonderful bunch of teachers! It's a lot of fun teaching with them!
